In Memory of Mike LePage
The Mike LePage scholarship was founded in 2014 to honor the memory of NMHS graduate Charles Michael LePage, Jr., who passed away on September 3, 2013. Mike fought a valiant life-long battle with numerous medical conditions with courage and dignity. Throughout his life, Mike overcame seemingly insurmountable obstacles with grace and humility.
Each year, the John Pettibone Memorial Scholarship Committee reviews applications completed by New Milford High School Seniors for the Mike LePage Memorial Scholarship. This need-based scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates the motivation and determination to successfully pursue higher education in the field of healthcare.
About Mike
One of Mike's first jobs was as a summer camp counselor with the New Milford Park and Recreation Department. Mike was known to take his new campers aside at the beginning of the summer and explain his disability to them in terms they could understand. He would then tell the children they could ask him any questions they might have. Mike wanted them to feel comfortable, not only around him but also around other individuals with disabilities, as well.
Mike was passionate about sports and was considered a sports trivia expert. Throughout the years, when physical limitations prevented him from playing competitive sports, Mike channeled his interest into becoming a manager for several teams.
Following his graduation from New Milford High School, Mike earned a bachelor’s degree in communication at Western Connecticut State University. While attending Western, Mike was a reporter and writer for the school newspaper, The Echo. He was known for his creative writing style and critiques.
During his college career, Mike was a commentator for numerous sporting events and was active in the theater arts department. His ultimate employment goal was to work as a writer for the World Wrestling Entertainment organization in Stamford, CT.
