Walter Timothy “Tim” Conn, was born in New Milford on April 10, 1949, the first of three children to Walter J. and Helena Hulton Conn. Followed a few years later by sisters Suzanne and Sarah, Tim attended New Milford schools. In 1967, Tim graduated from New Milford High School where he played baseball and football. During his high school years, he was also the drummer for a popular local band known as “The Chessmen,” playing at school functions and local venues. Tim attended Western Connecticut State College and earned a degree in mathematics. He then joined the family business, Conn’s Dairy, Inc., which included a dairy bar on Route 202 and a vending machine business. He married Joan (Brennan) and had a daughter Shannon, and a son, Ryan. Tim enjoyed playing in the men’s sports leagues in town, and became the drummer for a band known as “Flashback.” He also became a member of the John Pettibone Memorial Scholarship Fund in the 1980s. In 1989, Tim was diagnosed with inoperable CNS lymphoma. After Tim’s death in 1993, his friends and relatives organized the Tim Conn Open, an annual golf tournament whose purpose is to honor Tim’s legacy as well as to raise funds for a special John Pettibone Scholarship given annually in Tim’s name.
